First Blog Anniversary

First Blog Anniversary
I have blogged at this same url (the memory of rain) before and if I do count, this would be my third time here but I'm not counting. So August 15 is the first anniversary for this blog. Here are thoughts on blogging:

01/ The artwork below is one of my favorite, favorite artwork that I did. It's all about time and moving around and such but I'm more prone to stay in one place and I guess it's why I have returned to blog here again even though I can easily have created a new blog. I'm really not much into traveling unless you count the ones I did in books.

'prone to stay still'
02/ I think staying at Blogger works for me because I can easily create new blogs without having to worry about urls or templates. I guess I'm so used to Blogger that if I would to move to Wordpress, I wouldn't know what to do there. I really think Blogger is the most user friendly platform there is. It still saddens me a little when bloggers leave Blogger and move to Wordpress but it's really about preferences so I cannot scold anyone for changing their platform.

03/ I've often deleted unused blogs because I believe in starting fresh and yet, I have kept some of my previous blogs because... Well, actually I don't know why. They aren't any use and yet, I can't seem to delete them. I used to re-direct my old blogs (the ones I haven't deleted) to the new one but I don't think that works well because if a blog doesn't seem to be updated, then people won't visit so now I leave a link to the new blog. In a way, this is my new blog because I don't have any of the previous posts from before.

04/ I have always updated and corrected my previous posts because I believe mistakes should be corrected so I may have changed out some artworks in a few posts just so there are no repeated artworks and corrected some spelling and writing mistakes. People might not notice mistakes but I always seems to and the impulse to fix things is too much for this organizing-neat-freak not to do something about it.

05/ Sometimes I think I'm a failure at blogging because I don't have that many readers or have a particular type of blog that people want to go to. But it doesn't bother me. Okay, maybe it bothers me a little bit. Maybe now and then, I like to be popular enough to have a million readers and maybe sometimes I would prefer to have a small audience because then I would only fail a few people if I don't keep up with posting.

06/ I like to keep my blog fresh looking so I often changed my blog's template a lot but now I'm more into changing the header now and then. I have stuck to a one-column blog but I will occasionally change to two but mostly, I prefer one-column because I hate having sidebar clutters.
various blog headers

07/ It seems like only yesterday that started blogging but it has been years. I believe I have evolved and yet, I feel like I don't know much about blogging but at least, I'm not as worrisome about posting as before.

08/ Most of my favorite bloggers are no longer blogging but now and then, I would check on old links and see if they have come back because I like seeing them.

09/ I know people moderate comments for spams but I've never done that. I hardly get spams and the few that I got, I deleted them. I suppose being as unpopular as I am, there wouldn't be so many traffics to my blog to earn much spam.

10/ 'The memory of rain' came from a title of a poem I wrote years ago and I'm kind of embarrassed I even wrote such flowery (perhaps unintentionally cheesy) poetry. But I still love the title. Here's the poem:

the memory of rain

love is painted in a dark corner
eager to leave, eager to stay
its shadow wander into my tiny world
without pity, without sadness
it pours its cool rain into my memory
and release a slow birth
of a borrowed tomorrow

11/ I have a blogroll which I titled 'bookmarks' because that is what I used to do when I want to revisit a blog – I bookmark them. But I thought having a list is much easier to maintain than bookmarks. I edit this list from time to time to remove any blogs that hasn't been blogging but I've been lazy and haven't edited the list for a while but these blogs on the list are still some of my favorite blogs (Go here if you want to check out my blogroll).

12/ I don't do social media or rather I don't do social media well. I honestly think social media are for phone users and I'm not much of a phone user - staring at a small screen does not motivate me at all. I did tried:
• Twitter — too fast for me to keep up, I deleted my account;
• Pinterest — I felt it was a bit useless to gather images for later use when in fact, I don't even return to look at them, I deleted my account;
• Instagram — somehow if I don't post every day, it feels like I'm behind or something, I really just don't like it, I still have an Instagram page but it's not being updated.

13/ I'm kind of nuts in that when I get an idea, I would take a week to get something written and then take another week to finally write it properly and then I might even take another week to decide whether it is worthy enough to post it. It's probably why sometimes there are long gaps between posts and sometimes there are very short gaps. I think no matter what I post, it will be only in people's mind briefly and so it really doesn't matter if I take a long while to post something, right? But in that brief moment, I hope readers get a bit of something out of what I wrote and posted.

14/ I've joined in many memes/challenges but I find they are either too fast or that I'm too slow to really follow them each week. But I do them anyway. Probably so I can meet new bloggers and be involved somehow with other bloggers or maybe the real reason is because I'm too lazy to come up with my own post ideas so doing challenges and memes makes it easier.

15/ I like to believe that every blogger has a passion for something and that's what keeps them blogging even if it's a small thing like wanting to share a thought or two. My passion are books, art, pretty much everything that motivates me to think and do and take notice of what's around me.

  1. Congratulations on reaching your blogoversary.
Blogs are about the only social media I follow, and I am endlessly grateful for the invitation to share snippets of people's lives. And endlessly awed at the talent (in some may fields) I have found.

  4. Congratulations on your blog anniversary! I am sad that many of the lovely blogs I used to follow no longer exist too. Many people have left for Instagram. I always enjoy seeing your lovely art!

    1. Yeah, so many blogs left to the void, it's sad but that's how things are.

  5. Gongratulation. Yes so many blogs disappear, that's sad. Bloggers seem to leave Blogger for WP and then stop blogging - maybe unfair, but that's how I see it.

    1. I agreed with you, I have seen many bloggers switch to wordpress and then they stop blogging which is kind of strange but it happens.

Thanks for stopping by, have a lovely day.

  7. I recently found your blog and added it to my blogroll :) I was on Blogger for many, many years, but last year switched to Wordpress - only because so many folk couldn't comment from their phones/tablets, and there were often glitches in posting. Wordpress is clean and easy to use, I've found.
I am having a blog-break in August, but I plan to return to regular posting in September. I don't use any other social media, and I don't have an i-phone, just a regular mobile - to me a phone is a means to call people, not a mini-computer :)
It's a great giveaway, btw - thank you!!

    1. I guess I'm so used to Blogger that I found Wordpress not as easy to use.

I agreed with you, phones are for calls, but these days, people use their phones for a lot of things.

Thanks for stopping by, have a lovely day.

    1. I do love hearing about how people got their blog names and yes, 'the memory of rain' is a great name. There was a blogger that asked me to use it as their tumbler blog but sadly, I don't remember the url.

Thanks for stopping by, have a lovely day.

  12. Hi Lissa! I'm super late to the party (I bookmarked this post the day it went live, but I forgot to come back until I started to blog-hop this weekend).

    First off, happy (belated) blogoversary!

About your list - I can really relate to N°4 and 15. I also love your poem!

Quote: "I think no matter what I post, it will be only in people's mind briefly and so it really doesn't matter if I take a long while to post something, right? But in that brief moment, I hope readers get a bit of something out of what I wrote and posted."
That's sad but true. Even books sometimes only get read once, never mind blog posts. But I still feel compelled to give them my best, even if it takes a month!

And you're not a failure at blogging. I work hard to have at least a post a week, get involved with the community and all that, but that doesn't mean I'm successful. If you have to cover popular things to get popular, or to post every other day, that's something I don't want/can't do, so I'm (mostly) at peace with that.

    1. #4 - Yes, corrections have to make, it only make sense.

      #15 - I truly believe this.

I don't remember how even end up writing that poem but I really do love the title.

I actually think people have short attention span, even the most patient person have their limits. But I do think blogs touch people even just briefly.

I also have accepted that it's better to post what and when you want rather than get on the popular train.

Thanks for stopping by, have a lovely day.
