Seven Things: Some mild rants

wings & sunshine
Wings & Sunshine (version 1)
01 | I have changed my blog name but not moved to a new ulr and that means I changed the title of my blog in my blog setting, then the name inside my blog template since I put it in, and then there's the follow by email/feed title (only the title or else I'll have to tell my subscribers I have changed the address). As for those with link lists on their sidebar, I don't think I'll be able to change those. I think they can change it manually or re-add my blog to the list but I will not ask them to do it, it's not polite, I don't think. There might be other things I should also change to the new name but I'll just leave it.
And I also capitalized everything on my blog, everything that needs it, that is. Since I make the labels in lowercase, I went to my template and added the text-transform: capitalize; code to certain areas so that I don't have to re-label everything. I don't think there is a way to edit existing labels. There's a few labels that I had to delete and re-add new ones in capitalize words. So learn from me - don't lowercase your labels, ever.

02 | I know people don't come here for my fiction but I'm going to post them anyway. In fact, I'll continued Chicks in Space without prompts and will try to post once a week, although I might skip a week or two. Even if people aren't interested in that story, I'm interested in finishing it. And if I finish that story, maybe I'll get around to finish the other two and the many, many others I sort of abandoned. And maybe even try to finish my many, many, artworks as well.

03 | I have no patience for making/editing videos. For my art process posts, I made two videos of two art pieces that finished. They are actually screen recording using Quicktime and they are long (over an hour) so I thought I can speed them up but after I uploaded them to youtube but I can't. The idiot that I am didn't know youtube had discontinued that part of their service. Also, you can't edit any videos unless it's published which I think it's kind of dumb because why publish it when it's not ready? (Youtube is owned by the same company most people, including me, used for blogging. You know how good they are about making users happy.)
After weeks of trying to find a way to speed videos, I didn't find a solution. I find most video editing software are either too expensive (most are subscription based so you either pay a monthly fee or a yearly fee); too hard to use with more features than I need; or I can't use them because my computer's operating system is too old. So I ended up playing the videos at five times the speed in Quicktime and then re-recorded it using Quicktime's screen recording. It is a screen recording of a screen recording so maybe it lost a bit of the quality but I can't tell the difference. The quality wasn't great in the original anyway since I don't have a high definition screen.
And also, there might not be sounds on the videos because they are still long, less then 19 minutes even after I sped them up, and the music library in youtube are mostly under 3 minutes. I can use the same song repeated but you can't do that all at once. You have to save the video each time you added a song which then will take 2-whatever-hours to process and then you can add the same song so when you do the math, it meant I would spend a day or two adding music just to one video. I can use the longer music pieces there but they are slow music and it's not much fun to add slow music to a video that is sped up. I can also download the song and make it longer but that also requires software I don't have.
I thought about not posting the videos at all but then it's kind of a waste because I had spent so much time making them and so many frustrated hours trying to figure things out. But you'll know if I end up posting the videos or not when I posted the first part this week.

04 | I notice bloggers are now posting 'month in review' kind of posts, about what they did in the previous month or what they posted in the previous month on their blog and I would like to do that except, it seems like a boring thing to do since I don't post anything worth re-reading but it's something to think about. I post the books I read in the previous month and I think that's kind of enough to say how my month went. The more books I read, the more likely that I have done very little and yet, the less books I read doesn't mean I have done a lot. So maybe my reading habit does not say anything about me except that I like to read books and complain about them.

05 | You might consider me a Luddite of sorts. I'm not against technology but I'm not for having the latest, greatest software either. I used to update constantly but now I find it unnecessarily annoying. Firefox still keeps asking me if I want to update even though I have updated it about a million times. You can't even stop them from checking for updates and asking you to update because there is no option to say No, I don't want to update, I'll continue to use this old version because I hate you for removing my options so that I have no choice but to update or keep getting that annoying notice to update.
I guess I should be glad most softwares do not try to find updates and ask you to update each time you open them because then I would stop using them just so I wouldn't have to see the stupid pop-up notice. And they are not called software or applications, no, they are apps because we like to make things sound silly for no reason... I'm sure one of these days, I'll be forced to update my computer's system and every single software on it (which will be very costly) but until then, it's not going to happen.

06 |  Some people are attached to their phones, me, it's my computer. Number 5 issues aside, I can't really do anything without a computer. Without a computer, I wouldn't be blogging, creating art (well, I would but I wouldn't have a place to show them), working (definitely requires one), writing (I used to write in notebooks but then retype into the computer), and many other things like knowing what day of the week it is (I really sometimes don't know even with a calendar.) But maybe since I've grown so used to relying on my computer for just about everything, I can't really change my ways. We don't need computers to live but these days, without one, life seems harder. But now I try to turn my computer off whenever I can. I don't imagine I can stop using my computer (or any computer) altogether because how can one stop a habit that I have been doing almost all my life?

07 | Coming up in April, I'll be doing the April A-Z Challenge again. I know, it's a month away but I like to just say I'm doing it as a reminder. You would think since I have a month, I can go and prepare all the posts but no, I don't do that. I do the challenge without pre-writing any posts. For some reason, the more time I have to do something, the more lazy I am about doing it. I guess I just don't have a mind to pre-do anything.

What's on your mind these days?
